- The Wiltern LG Opening Gala Features Ashanti
Seoul, Korea, October 22, 2003 - Seventy-two years after its historic opening as one
of Southern California??'s most beautiful art deco performance venues, The Wiltern
LG entered a new era last night with an exclusive gala party featuring international
platinum recording artist, Ashanti.
The historic theater has been renamed The Wiltern LG to reflect the underwriting
support it has received from LG Electronics(Vice Chairman and CEO S.S.Kim
/www.lge.com),a leading global consumer electronics company and major corporate
supporter of the arts.
Rated by fans and artists alike as one of the most evocative and intimate concert
venues on the West Coast, The Wiltern LG has a long and storied past. Originally
built as a grand movie theater in 1931 by Stiles O. Clements partner of the oldest
design firm in Los Angeles: Morgan, Walls & Clements, it hosted premieres and other
gala events during the golden age of Hollywood. Since 1985, it has been a showcase
for live entertainment events.
"LG is very proud of its involvement in helping preserve one of California's
unique cultural landmarks," said Jae H. Bae, president of LG Mobile Phones,
who together with fellow senior executives from the LG Digital Display & Media
Company, and the LG Digital Appliance Company, hosted the gala event.
"While we are a technology-focused consumer electronics company whose products are at the cutting edge, we are also committed to supporting the arts
throughout the world."
The festivities began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Deputy Mayor of Los
Angeles, Doane Liu. Linda Dishman, Executive Director of the L.A. Conservancy,
thanked LG for their efforts towards the preservation of The Wiltern Theater,
and the Deputy Mayor presented a plaque on behalf of the City of Los Angeles
recognizing LG's contribution to the community.
Ashanti's stunning set capped the evening of live music and was made even more
noteworthy by the introduction and on-site demonstrations of LG Electronics'
new digital display technology.
LG Electronics, the title sponsor for The Wiltern LG, is a major global player
in mobile phones,high-definition televisions and Internet-enabled home appliances.
As part of its growing presence in the United States, LG Electronics had sought
community contribution opportunities, electing this sponsorship due to The
Wiltern LG's unique history and importance to the Los Angeles community.
