LG Electronics is participating at "2003 International CES" - held from January 9 to 12 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, U.S., - jointly with Zenith, its U.S. subsidiary. LGE plans to use the world renowned appliance exhibition to intensify its marketing drive in the home appliance market.
LGE and Zenith plans to highlight its world class digital technology with displays like PDP TV (42 to 60 inches: total 30 models), LCD TV (10 to 52 inches: total 37 models), LCD/DLP projection TV (49 to 60 inches: total 10 models), HD digital cable TV, DVD recorder, HDD-DVD, digital TV set-top box and many other cutting-edge digital TV and AV products.
In particular, LGE is using 2003 International CES as the launch pad to further its presence in the U.S. - the world's top 3 PDP market along with Europe and Japan - by unveiling 3 models (42, 50, 60 inches) of the so-called "K/K PDP TV" boasting the world's highest brightness (1,000 candela) and best contrast (1000:1).
At the same time, the 52-inch TFT-LCD TV from LG.Philips LCD, the world's first 50-inch range TFT-LCD, along with mid-to-large sized LCD TVs (42, 30, 23, 20.1-inches) are on display for the exhibition to solidify LGE's position as the global leader of Flat Panel Display.
As part of its efforts to aggressively target the North American projection TV market whose volume is expected to reach around 1.8 million TVs this year, LGE will also display a wide range of projection TV products ranging from LCD/DLP projection to HD level projection with PVR, and projection TV for home theaters.
Most notably, the product that has HD level PVR within the 60-inch LCD projection TVs is the world's first to support features like simultaneous recording, recording search, summary of main scenes, and maximum 300 speed search.
In addition, LGE is unveiling the world's first 32-inch HD TV that satisfies "plug and play"(receives analog terrestrial, digital terrestrial and even digital cable signals) DTV cable standard recently agreed upon by North American Cable Multiple System Operators and Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) of the U.S.
LGE is also exhibiting a variety of cutting-edge set-top box products including: Set-top box for terrestrial signals that comes with HD level PVR feature to record/playback HD level images; the world's first DVD combo digital set-top box that delivers not only HD level digital broadcasting signals but also DVDs in HD grade images to viewers; and the world's first HD grade open cable set-top box.
Zenith which owns the source technology for North American digital transmission standard (VSB, Vestigial Side Band), aims to solidify its standing as the A/V product leader in the home appliance and broadcasting industries, and use the exhibition as the springboard to expand its presence in the North American digital market.
In addition to displaying the latest products at 2003 CES, LGE also created separate meeting rooms for buyers in its booth to meet with major dealers and representatives of the appliance distribution industry to expand its sales channel. It also plans to engage in direct marketing efforts such as signing sales agreements on-site at the exhibition.
Top executives of both LGE and Zenith including CTO Woo-hyun Paik and President Nam-Kyun Woo (Executive Vice President, Digital Media Company) of LGE and President Duk-joo Lee of Zenith will participate in the exhibition for top management meetings with other global leading companies to strengthen cooperative ties and deliver tangible business results.
