LG Electronics introduces the side-by-side refrigerator 2004 series

side-by-side refrigerator
LG Electronics introduced 95 models for the side-by-side refrigerator 2004 series, which are equipped with an innovative linear compressor made possible through the dream energy-saving technology in Korea.

The product lines will be introduced to many countries this year starting from US and European market.

Early last year, LGE introduced, first in the world, side-by-side refrigerators equipped with the linear compressor that results in electricity savings of 30%. LGE has upgraded the efficiency of linear compressor by 5% in the process achieving greater electricity conservation.

LGE has innovated the technology to improve the industry's usual estimate for the limit of electricity consumption for side-by-side refrigerators.
Recognized for this innovative energy efficiency technology, the LGE's new refrigerator has received the 2004 Kitchen and Bath Award from "Home magazine", a leading US magazine. The award is given to new products each year. Likewise, the product was awarded "the Energy Winner Prize of the Year" in Korea and acclaimed by 'Appliance Manufacture', global appliance trade magazine, bringing LGE's linear compressor technology to the attention of the world.

The linear compressor allows the motor to have a linear motion, saving energy and requiring no joints where friction and abrasion occur.
With the adoption of R-600a, an environment-friendly refrigerant, it also reduces the ozone destruction index and the global warming index to zero, the first of its kind in Korea, together with blowing agent Cyclo-Pentane. In other words, it helps protect the environment from further destruction.
Another feature of the linear side-by-side refrigerator 2004 series is that it reflects consumers' enhanced health awareness and applies the silver nano antibacterial technology as approved last year by international accreditation agencies such as FDA, EPA, ISO, and SIAA.

Guaranteed to make kitchen interiors more stylish, the 2004 series comes in crystal silver, crystal white, and other premium colors introduced last year as well as new colors such as wine and marine blue with striped patterns.

"Consumers responded very favorably to our innovative side-by-side refrigerators last year. This year, our side-by-side refrigerators received the Kitchen and Bath Award from a US Home magazine; thus boosting their recognition worldwide as innovative refrigerators equipped with powerful linear compressors. Inspired by such confidence, we will continue to expand overseas sales," said Vice President of LGE, Mr. Park, Young-il.

* For reference : Linear compressor VS. existing compressor
The existing compressor converts the motor's rotating motion into linear motion to compress refrigerants, resulting in 20% more energy loss in the process. On the other hand, the linear compressor allows the motor to have a linear motion, eliminating the corresponding energy loss, requiring no joints where friction and abrasion occur, and reducing noise remarkably. The technology forms part of the next-generation green technologies.

In addition, the existing compressor requires frequency conversion systems such as inverters designed to change the motor speed according to temperature changes. Since the linear compressor controls the piston travel distance through a digital circuit, however, no separate frequency conversion systems are necessary. Likewise, it responds automatically to the food quantity inside the refrigerator and external temperatures; thus enhancing cooling efficiency.
